This is a learning module I created in ELMS-Canvas for the faculty of the History Department at the University of Maryland-College Park. The clients were the leadership of the department, who sought to replace the current faculty handbook with an e-learning resource that would help both new and experienced faculty learn about essential policies and tasks. The result was an on-demand learning resource that included this information, along with formative knowledge checks to allow faculty to confirm their understanding of a topic. Because the actual Canvas resource requires login authentication to access, the artifact is a video walkthrough of the project.
This project represents an important milestone in my development as an instructional designer, as it was my first opportunity to undertake a project from start to finish that required authentically producing an e-learning product for a client. My previous e-learning designs were mostly for my own courses, interests, and purposes, or assisting other faculty with the development of their course materials. This, on the other hand, required me to manage the expectations of multiple stakeholders, work on someone else’s timeline, and communicate my ideas in new ways that I had not had to do before. The client was very pleased with the results, and would like to expand the project to include more content in the near future.
"Courtney delivered exactly what I was looking for. It’s a great site, and I’m looking forward to working with her again to expand it."
